Medway Open Studios

Medway’s independent open studios and arts festival began in 2012 and each year gives the public a chance to visit local studios showcasing all art forms including crafts, visual and performing arts.

Held in July each year, the festival can be approached as an arts trail, with many studios grouped together within walking distance and a prize draw for visitors who collect the signatures of studios they visit in the festival brochure.

We encourage as many creatives as possible to join the festival and welcome visitors in to their work spaces – to exhibit, talk to people about their art, sell their work and offer creative activities and arts events.

The festival welcomes applications from schools, colleges and community groups as well as individuals and groups of artists.

Founder and organiser of the festival Heather Burgess, grew up in Medway and is passionate about the creative culture in the towns. The festival is run by a small team of Medway based creatives – Heather Burgess, Xtina Lamb and Wendy Daws.

Each year, visitors are welcomed to explore the hidden creative work spaces and secret studios across Medway. Along the trail you can take part in art activities and events, view exhibitions, talk to the artists, buy art and crafts, and see first hand the array of artistic talent and opportunities in this impressively creative area of Kent.
