The Programme

This programme was launched in 2022 by Libbie, in conjunction with Medway Plus to encourage creativity outside of the classroom, improve young peoples wellbeing and to inspire a future in the arts. We are continuing to offer these sessions with support from our new funder: The Ashley Family Foundation.

We are currently taking term time bookings for groups of up to 60 students from all types of education including:

  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • Further Education
  • Home Education
  • Alternative provision
  • Additional Needs

The sessions can be an excellent opportunity to reinvigorate budding artists, refocus busy minds or provide a chance to support young peoples mental health, as well as inspiring educators to try new things in the classroom.

Unfortunately there is no step free or disabled access to the Riverside Gallery. However, with prior arrangement we may be able arrange use of a ground floor accessible space.

The Session

During the dedicated educational session there is exclusive access to the Riverside Gallery and the café area. This means the Gallery is not open to the general public and the café area is available as a breakout space or for packed lunches/snacks. We provide as standard, a two hour session or a full day, we are also happy to discuss bespoke sessions.

A two hour visit normally looks like:

  • Introductions
  • Ice breaker activity
  • Workshop
  • Studio tour
  • Ask an artist
  • Feedback

Workshops

The visits and workshops can easily be adapted or tailored to the age group, curriculum or theme of choice – we are always happy to discuss ideas and requirements. Examples include:

  • Collage workshop
  • Foil embossing workshop
  • Salad spinner mural
  • 3D Sculpture workshop

Libbie

Libbie graduated from UCA Rochester with an Access to HE Diploma in Art and Design. She is passionate about creating opportunities for young people in arts and culture. Libbie joined Sun Pier House in 2022 as the Gallery Activities Coordinator, a role previously funded by Creative Estuary. She has been instrumental in developing and delivering an exciting arts programme for young people in the community.

Studio Tours

Students will have the opportunity to have a private tour of our arts organisation and meet some of our resident artists in their studios. We have 24 studios and 32 artists based in Sun Pier House. This is a chance for young people to Ask an Artist questions and be inspired by a future in the arts.
