Richard has been with us at Sun Pier House since 2017 as a Painter & Illustrator who works mostly in oils, pens and pencils on both canvas and paper. ⁠

⁠He was born in Shropshire and studied Art in Shrewsbury, and Newport, South Wales before training to become an art teacher in North London.

He has since taught Art in schools across London and Kent and was a senior moderator for an examining body as well as the National Secretary for the Artists’ Union for a period.

Continuing to produce art throughout these periods but now concentrating exclusively on his own work, Richard creates art reflecting his response to the rural and urban environment and the people who populate it, particularly around the Medway Estuary. ⁠
